Kudos to Sung-Chan Ku and Nurul Annisa for Publishing in Journal of Taiwan Education Studies

Congratulations to Sung-Chan Ku and Nurul Annisa for publishing their article, conducted in collaboration with Dr. Shonn Cheng, in the Journal of Taiwan Education Studies: “Exploring subject area differences in teacher beliefs and technology use: A national study of vocational and non-vocational teachers.”

This study addressed the gap in understanding how subject culture influences teachers’ beliefs and technology integration across different disciplines. Using a nationally representative sample of Korean in-service teachers (n = 2,117), we found that teachers’ beliefs and technology use varied systematically across subject areas, even after controlling for demographic and school-level factors. Notably, vocational education teachers reported higher competence beliefs, value beliefs, and both the quantity and quality of technology use compared to several non-vocational subject areas. These results highlight the critical role of subject culture in shaping teachers’ beliefs and instructional practices and emphasize the importance of subject-specific approaches to teacher education and professional development.
